BREWSTER KING SALMON DERBY

Mauk Fishing Stuff LLC
In 2021 the Brewster Chamber of Commerce was offered the Derby back from the Upper Columbia Derby Fund- Randy and Lori.  After working as a volunteer for the Chamber since 2021 and having little help from the Chamber, I ran the event. So many volunteer hours for the whole year.
After the 2nd year, I went to the Chamber with a proposal to take over the duties of running the event and sharing a percentage of the net profits. They accepted my proposal.
This year after the event my company decided we wanted to take the derby over, so we have complete control over it. We felt like the Derby would be better without having to involve the Chamber.
I presented a proposal to take over the Brewster Salmon Derby from the Chamber at the Board meeting on November 6, 2023.
The Chamber board of Directors unanimously released the Derby completely to Mauk Fishing Stuff LLC
The main reason we have taken this over from the Chamber of Commerce is they do not have the volunteer manpower to put on this event.
Having the Derby go to a local business running the Derby we can support the local businesses, and keep bringing in the fishermen and their families into our area.  And keep it local and an event the City can be proud of bringing in Families filling the  RV parks and Motels and helping our small businesses.
 New this year:
“We have on board a Derby consultant Rich Braun, with over 28 years’ experience with fishing derbies and helps run the largest fishing derby on the west coast of North America, the Everett Coho Derby that has over 2000 participants”. He will look over our derby past and present and will be making recommendations going forward. He also owns Simply Derby that does ticket sales for events and has made a huge difference here the last 2 years with our ticket sales.
We have a consultant who was the director for the NCWEDD and on the Entiat Chamber of Commerce Alyce Brown and is now forming a consulting business that will help with Grant writing and Strategic Planning and CEDS  and can help us go forward with a non-profit if we decide to go that route and help with other matters like this.
We will still prioritize our sponsors and we are looking for someone to take over our social media platforms as that is the way of the future and working with our consultants, we know this is going to be a big part of our advertising.
On our staff this year we have a local person who has managed events around our area to help organize the prizes and giveaways and this will make everything run much smoother. This is all year and mostly at the event itself.
We, as always will continue to donate generously to the Brewster Chamber of Commerce, the local Boys and Girls Club, and the Food Banks, and the Brewster, Bridgeport, Pateros Senior Center as well as other youth activities throughout the year.
We have set up 2 $1000.00 scholarships for the Brewster High School Students for next year they are $500.00 each for the first year and if they sign up for the second year they will receive the other $500.00.
We also contribute to The North Central Washington chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA), that are our voice to the WDFW  and other agencies to keep our sport fisheries alive and well.

We are working hard to make this event the best, most fun event ever.
Thanks again, Mike Mauk
